In brief

One question, asked in three rooms

Medicine, teaching, and research have never been separate careers for me. They are three ways of asking the same question: what actually carries a person through hard formation — and how do those of us who teach make that passage better rather than harder?

That question began in a UNHCR refugee camp clinic, where I served as medical director and physician in charge — caring for people whose formation was being tested by circumstances none of them chose. It has since taken me through the lecture hall and the laboratory and into self-directed learning, wellbeing, motivation, and how students choose what they study from. It is also the question that sits under the ministry, in different words.

PhysicianClinical training and practice, and the foundation everything else is built on.
Clinical anatomistDissection-based teaching, with radiology integrated into the anatomical sciences.
Medical educatorAssistant Professor of Medical Education, and a researcher of how learners are formed.

The work, in four parts

One life, two callings

The classroom and the pulpit ask the same question in different words.
